Supporting Churches to Flourish
Yorkshire North & East
Methodist District

Our church family is modern in outlook and also mindful of our rich Methodist tradition. Sunday morning 11.00am services are suitable for all ages.

St John's Church is in the town centre of Market Weighton, just off the A1079 between York and Hull. It dates from 1868 and houses an historic church organ. At the rear of the church is the oldest surviving Methodist Chapel in the East Riding of Yorkshire, now called the Wesley Centre. This dates to 1786 and is where John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, preached in 1787. Both buildings were refurbished in 2012.

There are a number of community activities throughout the week in both the Church and the Wesley centre.

  • Step by Step bible study, 10am on a Tuesday for about an hour. This is held in the Wesley Centre behind the church.
  • Warm Wednesdays. 10.am until 1.00pm.
  • Boys and girls brigade meet on a friday in term time.

There is wheelchair access via a ramp at the front of the building and a wheelchair accessible toilet (the Wesley Centre is only wheelchair accessible on the ground floor, and there is no wheelchair access to the balcony in church). Facilities include seating for 240 (main church 100, balcony and pews 140), an audio loop system, toilets, baby changing facilities, and kitchen,
