Pateley Bridge Mission Area is part of a rural landscape in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to Harrogate and Leeds. We hope to see our churches grow in faith and number, through outreach and discipleship and seeking to be creative in how we connect with our communities.

Our Vision

Pateley Bridge Mission Areaexists to worship God, proclaim Christ, serve the community near and far and meet the need for variety in worship styles for all ages, work ecumenically, build up the people of God into healthy fellowships, living out the gospel and enabling each congregation to recognise its place in Methodism and the far, wider church.

We subscribe to intentional discipleship growth, making new disciples and a Methodist Way of Life, and Our Calling is the beating heart of the MA. A range of people serve in pastoral care roles. We have some small groups and aim to develop more for fellowship and teaching, and our programme of mission-focussed outreach. The MA is commencing the "Everyone an Evangelist" Course from Autumn 2024. We are committed to working in teams, open to working ecumenically and seeking to nurture, develop and support lay leadership across the Pateley Bridge Mission Area. We seek to grow as disciples of Jesus together and support each other on our journey of faith and have some joy and fun along the way.

Our Team:

  • Minister- Revd Neville Simpson.
  • Local Pastor – Alan Jordan
  • Circuit Steward – Steve Edwards
  • Mission Area Representative – Derek Barnes
  • Various lay leaders across the Mission Area.

Our churches are:

Summerbridge: a large village church, with a re-developed building and contemporary style of worship. It is actively re-establishing children/youth activities, runs a weekly parent/toddler group and 'the Hub' a conversation and fellowship drop in café. It has arranged fruitful ALPHA courses. It is a year into a two-year Holy Habits programme to embed discipleship growth into everyday life and church growth. There is a strong leadership team and commitment to intentional evangelism.

Upper Nidderdale: one church with 3 sites, Wath- a listed building in a small community, Pateley Bridge-a small market town andGlasshouses- a small village. Each tends toward traditional style worship.Pateley Bridge and Glasshouses share morning services with buildings used during the week. Wath offers evening services and is a visitor destination for walkers.

Darley: a village church with a traditional style of worship and strong house fellowship, developing several community initiatives.

Details of activities at each church are available under the name of the church. We seek to support each other and for the work of each church to flourish in its setting.
We also work with the 'Church in the Dale' ecumenical alliance including ecumenical events such as Easter Walk of Witness, Armistice and Nidderdale Show.
